Bowl Republic Tray SVK | QUBUS

The bowl Republic Tray in the shape of the Slovak Republic was created at Qubus in 2022 on the initiative of the Czech Center Bratislava as an addition to the original bowl in the shape of the Czech Republic. The project was implemented in accordance with and after consultation with the author of the original proposal, Maxim Velčovský.
The original bowl called Heimweh (longing for home) was part of Maxim Velčovský's diploma thesis. It presents a specific souvenir in the shape of the Czech Republic, loosely based on the work of the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto, specifically his series of organic glass vases from the 1930s; it literally became a symbol of national identity, although its arpically pure form made it impossible to place anything in it, so as not to spoil the resulting impression. Therefore, it often remains empty, like design in the function of free art. Velčovský, on the other hand, chose a concrete topographical abstraction, which is a direct reference to Czech statehood, but remains illegible for the uninitiated. The problematic use is identical.
